SKA SKA SKA SKA SKA

Well now, you may be wondering what ska is...........if you are, well, I have a few suggestions for you...#1-Do NOT listen to MTV or to any of the 'Billboard' music charts or to how any store categorizes 'ska.' #2-Do NOT listen to anybody who says ska is reggae and punk mixed. #3-Understand that ska traces back to the 60s, and has been around long before now, you just were too ignorant to hear it until lately. #4-Continue to view my page, and to use my links to understand what ska is. (For anybody who likes a technical explanation, ska is a guitar emphasizing the upstroke on beats 2,3,4, with the bass and drums emphasing the 2, and 4 beats....horns are optional) Hmm, here ya go, lotsa ska links to wet your appetite, or at least make ya smile.......

Now, as you listen to ska music, you gotta understand something.....ska is NOT about anything at all, except, about, skankin!!! Skankin is just dancing, to the beat of ska music. Through my own research and experience, I have decided there are different ways to skank, the most common is what I label 'Skankin by the Numbers' (courtesy of a song of that name by Mustard Plug). To skank by the numbers, you pump your arms, and lift your knees, thus 'jogging' in place, sorta.... Another way to skank I call the 2tone swing, this is where you kick with your legs, instead of 'jogging' while moving an opposite arm with each leg, this can be done to 3rd wave, but I heard it described more in detail by 2tone bands, thus makin me think its a good way to get down to the slower english beat. Now those are the only ways to skank that I am coordinated enough to do, and I know there are specific steps to dancing with the Jamaican (gosh I hope i spelled that right) beat, just don't ask me to do them. The most important thing about skankin, however, is *NOT* doing exactly what I just told you.....its to jump on the dance floor, and have a durned good time. There is no Right, or Wrong way to skank, although there are common ways to skank, you just go and do whatever the beat moves ya to do.
